Fire Protection District
The fire protection board is in charge of all the fire departments in Mercer Co., all departments excluding Burgin's and Harrodsburg's city departments. They oversee the fire protection and rescue activities. In their arsenol they have 27 trucks to use for about 80 runs a month, using about 50,000 gallons of water a month. Because the pressure in the fire hydrants may not be sufficient, they have tanker trucks which store water from ponds, lakes, and other sources to use also in fighting fires. It is important to have these departments on hand with an average of 70 structure fires a year.
