Sheriff
 The sheriff’s duties fall into four categories: tax collection, election duties, services to court, and law enforcement. The majority of the sheriff’s time is spent on civil duties as opposed to the criminal or law enforcement.
KRS Chapter 70 relates to duties of the Sheriff and the deputies. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office is responsible annually for: Service of 3,000+ civil and criminal papers, Collection of $8,000,000+ in tax money, 1,000+ car inspections, 4,500+ hours securing the courtrooms and courthouse, Carry concealed weapons permits, 350+ cases opened, 225+ accidents worked, 210+ transports (mental detentions, juveniles and prisoners), Administering an $800,000 Annual budget, Patrolling county roads, Funeral escorts, attend election board meetings, and service of executions and sales.

The following 2007 delinquent property tax bills will be offered for sale by the Mercer County Sheriff at the Mercer County Courthouse on April 25, 2008, at 10:00 a.m.
Offers to purchase these bills can be submitted in writing beginning April 14, 2008, and must be received in this office by April 23, 2008. Offers to purchase can also be made in person on the date and time shown above. Offers should be mailed to:

The private purchaser of a delinquent tax bill will be issued a Certificate of Delinquency which represents a lien upon the real estate described on the face of the tax bill. Interest, at the rate of 12% per annum, accrues upon this certificate from the date of issuance.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Payments made during the 10% penalty period but prior to the sheriff’s delinquent tax claim sale date noted above are subject to an additional 10% sheriff’s fee. Payments made after the sheriff’s delinquent tax claim are subject to a 20% county attorney’s fee and a 10% county clerk’s fee.
