The Greater Harrodsburg/Mercer County Planning and Zoning Commission was created on behalf of the citizens for the purpose of assisting in the planned growth of the county. In addition, land use controls were implemented for the purpose of protecting the public health, safety, comfort, and general welfare.

The Planning & Zoning Commission was created in 1979 by the governing laws of KRS Chapter 100. This body consists of 6 appointed commissioners. Both the city and the county share equally in the appointments in that 3 members are appointed by the Fiscal Court and 3 members are appointed by the Mayor of Harrodsburg. They serve 4 year terms of office and are so appointed on a staggered basis. The current appointed commissioners are shown below

The Planning & Zoning Commission employs a full time Executive Director, Administrative Assistant and Zoning Enforcement Officer. The Executive Director with assistance from the Administrative Assistant is responsible for the day to day operations and planning efforts of the Commission. The Zoning Enforcement Officer is responsible for the necessary field work, i.e. setback inspections, complaints, and ensuring compliance with the legal requirements of the Ordinances. Additionally, the Commission retains legal counsel for the benefit of the Commission. Contact information is listed below.
