Kentucky’s First Settlement--1774

Once a frontier territory, “Harrodstown” was founded in 1774 as the first permanent English settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains. Lose yourself for awhile in a small town that’s bursting with historic charm. A place where the pioneer past has a strong presence and southern hospitality is the backdrop for an appealing mix of history, architecture and culture.

Tour Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, America's largest restored Shaker community. Cruise the Kentucky River aboard the Dixie Belle, an authentic sternwheeler.  Explore frontier life at Old Fort Harrod State Park. Savor traditional cuisine at Beaumont Inn, Kentucky’s oldest family-operated country inn. View the town’s architectural treasures on the Walking/Driving Tour.  Stroll downtown's historic district and shop for antiques and crafts. Stop in Dedman Drugstore (The Kentucky Fudge Company) to sit a spell in the café or at the original soda fountain and browse the early drug store memorabilia on display. Attend a variety of Festivals & Events held throughout the year.
